Firearms, weapons, and knives policy

If you intend to sell on one or more of eBay's international sites, you will need to accept, and we encourage you to carefully review, the User Agreement, policies, and other requirements of that site. You can continue to reach out to the relevant customer service teams on the respective eBay site of your listing or transaction, as may be applicable to the nature of your query.

 

Policy overview

 

Firearms and firearm parts are not permitted on the eBay site. This includes all sporting, collectible, curio & relic (C&R), Airsoft guns, replica or imitation, and antique firearms, regardless of their capability to fire a shot. This includes all firearms, ammunition and weapons the sale of which is prohibited under the Arms Act, 1959 or any other applicable law.

Weapons that don’t comply with relevant legislation are not permitted on eBay India.

Make sure your listing follows our guidelines. If it doesn't, it may be removed, and your buying and selling privileges could be restricted.

What are the guidelines?

 
eBay prohibits members from listing firearms and any component part of any such firearms, including antique, collectable, and sport & hunting firearms as well as ammunition.

  • Accessories for guns such as butt plates, cleaning supplies, holsters, pistol grips, racks, scopes, slings, stocks, storage cases or trigger guards. The listing must include a description of the type of firearm the accessory or part is used for. If it doesn't, the listing may be removed.

  • Firearms regardless of their ability to fire, how old they are, or their status as collectables curio & relic, signaling pistols, and antique firearms.

  • Any item that is designed to discharge any shot, bullet or other missile

  • Gun parts, including, but not limited to:

      • Barrels

      • Choke tubes

      • Cylinders

      • Firing pins

      • Frames, including grip frames

      • Magazines, regardless of capacity

      • Receivers, including parts, upper or lower, cut, or 80 per cent receivers

      • Slides

  • Any listing for a firearm accessory which contains a picture of the firearm itself

  • Replica or imitation firearms

  • Blank, dummy, live or inert ammunition

  • Airsoft guns, BB guns, pellet guns, or air rifles

  • Firearm kits that are used to create a firearm

 
You can list some of these items under certain conditions.

  • Side-handled baton, extendable or telescopic baton.

  • Knuckle-dusters

  • Sap or studded gloves

  • Whips entirely or partly comprised of any metal; or that consist of any number of knotted lashes (including whips known as "cat-o'-nine-tails").

  • Hunting slings or catapults

  • Any flail, mace or any article that consists of a club or staff fitted with a flanged or spiked head.

  • Any device that administers an electric shock on contact

  • Slingshot

 
Generally, knives are permitted to be listed on eBay, however there are exceptions including but not limited to:

  • Push daggers or any other device that consists of a single-edged or multi-edged blade or spike that has a handle fitted transversely to the blade or spike and allows the blade or spike to be supported by the palm of the hand.

  • Any trench knife or any other device that consists of a single-edged or multi-edged blade or spike that is fitted with a handle made of any hard substance that can be fitted over the knuckles of the hand of the user.

  • Any flick knife (or other similar device) that has a blade which opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by any pressure applied to a button, spring or device in or attached to the handle of the knife.

  • A knife that has a blade cover which withdraws into its handle by gravity or centrifugal force or through pressure being applied to a button, spring or device attached to or forming part of the knife.

  • A ballistic knife that propels a knife-like blade of any material by any means other than an explosive.

  • A knife that has a blade cover which withdraws into its handle by gravity or centrifugal force or through pressure being applied to a button, spring or device attached to or forming part of the knife.

  • A butterfly knife or "balisong" or any other device that consists of a single-edged or multi-edged blade or spike that fits within 2 handles attached to the blade or spike by transverse pivot pins and is capable of being opened by gravity or centrifugal force.

  • A star knife or any other device that consists of a number of angular points, blades or spikes disposed outwardly about a central axis point and that are designed to spin around the central axis point in flight when thrown at a target.

  • Belt buckle knives, lipstick case knives, air gauge knives, handwriting pen knives.

  • A walking stick or cane that contains a sword or any other single-edged or multi-edged blade or spike.

  • Any article or device that disguises and conceals within it, a single-edged or multi-edged blade or spike of any length or of any material.

 
We don't allow listings for explosives, grenades, or many types of military ordnance on eBay.

  • Military items listed by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR):

     

    - US federal laws and regulations strictly control the import and the export of certain military items and information manufactured and developed in the United States, whether or not the buyer or seller are located in the United States. In addition to prohibiting the listing of military ordnance and other weapons and equipment listed, sellers are not allowed to list any items or information covered by Part 121 of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), also known as the United States Munitions List. We advise sellers to review ITAR Part 121. If the item you want to list is included on the United States Munitions List, it isn't allowed on eBay.

     

    - The sale of any information, technical data, instruction manuals, or any other military data covered by ITAR Part 121 in any format is strictly prohibited.

  • Any imitation or replica of a bomb, grenade, rocket, missile or mine.

  • Anti-personnel devices including any acoustic, spray or light-emitting device that is designed to cause incapacitation or disorientation., including tear gas or pepper spray.

  • Body Armour vests.

  • Any item that is a weapon and due to a disguised appearance, is capable of not being recognised as a weapon.

 

In addition to this, U.S. federal laws and regulations strictly control the import of certain military items and information manufactured or developed in the United States, whether or not the buyer or seller are located in the U.S. In addition to prohibiting the listing of military ordnance and other weapons and equipment listed above, sellers are not allowed to list any items or information covered by Part 121 of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Sellers need to review ITAR Part 121 also known as the United States Munitions List before listing any military items or information on eBay. If the item you want to list is included on the United States Munitions List, it isn't allowed on eBay. Examples of items not allowed on eBay include night vision goggles, body armour, technical data manuals, gas masks and protective clothing. The sale of any information, technical data, instruction manuals or any other military data covered by ITAR Part 121 in any format is strictly prohibited.

eBay urges its sellers and buyers to comply with all governmental laws and regulations. Since the sale of weapons is highly regulated, or may cause harm to eBay or its members, sellers are restricted from listing of them on eBay.
