Invalid and Dead Email Addresses

If you intend to sell on one or more of eBay's international sites, you will need to accept, and we encourage you to carefully review, the User Agreement, policies, and other requirements of that site. You can continue to reach out to the relevant customer service teams on the respective eBay site of your listing or transaction, as may be applicable to the nature of your query.

On eBay, your account must always be associated with a valid email address so that we, and other eBay members, can contact you. An email is determined to be invalid when an email to that address bounces repeatedly. This usually means that the sender of the message receives an error message indicating that the email address or mailbox is unknown or invalid. If you'd like to report this, include the bounce message in your report, and use the Customer Support link at the bottom of this page.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing or Want It Now post cancellation

  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

  • Limits placed on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

Members who get an error message when they send a message to another member’s email address are most likely contacting an invalid or non-working address. Members are encouraged to report this by using the Customer Support link at the bottom of this page, and including the error message in their report.

eBay’s success is dependent on open communication between members as well as between eBay and its members. Members’ valid, working email addresses are essential to that communication.
