Japan 2000 Yen Commemorative Banknote (2000) P#103 TBB B364a Single Letter SN
    10 May, 2019
    A rare beauty.
This banknote quickly became unpopular with the general public as vending machines were not quickly re-configured to accept them, so production of the 2000 Yen banknote ceased in 2003, and they are now rarely found in circulation. A beautiful note which is becoming more difficult to find. They are no longer being printed, and the Bank of Japan now retains the bulk of those produced in its vaults. Because of the notes unpopularity with the general public they are unlikely to be released into general circulation.
    Japan 5000 Yen Banknote (1957) TBB B357a P# 93 *SINGLE LETTER* - Extremely Fine

    Underappreciated Beauty
These under-rated but beautiful multicolored notes are part of the C Series of banknotes issued between 1957 to 1969. The front features Prince Shotoku, a semi-legendary 6th-7th century regent and politician. Japanese Banknotes are uniquely made from Mitsumata (Edgeworthia papyrifera or Oriental paperbush), abaca pulp, and other fibers, giving the finished product a unique coloring and texture. The tradition of using Mitsumata as the raw material for making banknote paper has been passed down since it was first used for this purpose in 1879 (Meiji 12). From 1950 to 1970 the Japanese economy experienced unprecedented growth necessitating the introduction in 1957 and 1958 of larger denomination Series C 5000 Yen and 10000 Yen banknotes, reflecting a trend for larger transactions.
